What do you want to do with it? For simply tasks (internet, email, music, etc) that is fine. Put for games, movies, etc, its way too slow. I would also recommend maxing out the RAM in the laptop when you get it to 2GB of DDR 266.

EDIT:

god that last guy is annoying. downranking everyone because we didnt mention linux. what are we, 12? yes, your computer would run better if linux is installed on it. it you choose to install linux, thats your call. i dont really care. however, to say that you will spend a lot to upgrade the ram is BS. it would be about $80 to put 2GB in your laptop.

Like I said, the laptop is nothing fantastic but will still do you well. If you choose to go the linux route, ubuntu is a fantastic option.Refurbished budget laptop. Dell D600/DVD Laptop With Case And Mp3 worth the money?

Now, you might not have a Walmart where you are, but this netbook is better than that Dell, and I'm betting you can find one in your part of the world for about the same price.

You can also up the memory on this to 2 GB, probably for not too much money.
I say go for it. You probably want to invest in a larger hard drive, but aside from that it's a decent machine for the price. With 512MB RAM and a Radeon 9000 graphics card it'll play some of the older 3D games as well, though nothing new I'm afraid.
Hello,

I wouldn't.

XP Pro is nice.

But 512 ram... Not enough, unless you have more ram to install.

Basically not cost effective purchase, since you will probably put more into it for ram.

I really suggest you save a little bit more, and purchase a newer model. Though it does have a true GPU, and not an Intel ';GPU';.

If you want a Windows OS based laptop. You would soon regret your purhase. I would consider the WinXP Pro as as 1/3 of the purchase. If it is on a cd, separate from the hardware.

If your going to replace the WinXP Pro with a linux distro, then I say go for it. As we know linux isn't the resource hog that Windows is.

My laptop is probably about as old as that one, but I have 2 gigs of ram that I installed in mine. Now I run WinXP in VirtualBox under Sidux Aether.
