Whats meant by 5.1 channel in case of dvd player?

Should mean that its capable of supporting 5.1 surround soundWhats meant by 5.1 channel in case of dvd player?
5 channels (or speakers) + 1 sub woofer

These channels when placed in an ideal manner make the sound seem more realistic. The receiver splits the output into a number of channels and feeds in different input to each channel so as to make that effect. Heard of Dolby Systems?

Sub woofer is the speaker which is used for low frequency sound waves( can go as low as 20 Hz). In layman terms, low audio frequency = bass. More bass means heavy sound.

Hope that helps.Whats meant by 5.1 channel in case of dvd player?

5 surround speakers and one subwoofer. Your dvd player has the capabulity to play 5.1 but most likely you will need a reciever that will actually output 5.1
